Photo Tips:
Create Connection between your Subjects

You do not need to be a professional photographer to take photos that portray an emotion or a connection between your subjects and it doesn’t need to be a fluke!

What makes a photograph portray a connection between your subjects?

By following a few simple guidelines you are sure to take a photograph where closeness between your subjects is evident. These tips can be used when you would like to take that 'perfect’ photo of siblings, a couple, or friends.

  1. Stand Close together
    Have your subjects lean in towards one another with their heads close together. This connection will come through on the photo.
    Examples:
    For a couple - Lean in towards one another, angle your bodies together;
    Photos with a baby - Rather than laying the baby on the lap, go down to the baby’s level, or hold the baby close to your face.

  2. Harmonise the Colours
    Colours in a painting give different impressions – a photograph is no different. Consider this when taking your photo. If you have control over the outfits and colour in the background, consider the following:
    - Wear colours that work well together
    - Dress in a similar style, either both in evening wear or both in casual wear.
    To avoid dating the photograph, it is best to wear something plain and not too fashionable. For example, a white shirt and jeans.

  3. Series Shots – Capture the Moment
    A sequence of photos depicting various facial expressions and moods can look fabulous. As an example, some could be:
    - Natural laughter. This can really bring a photo to life;
    - Holding hands, walking away from the camera (perfect for a couple);
    - Kissing.

  4. Vary the framing
    Mix close up photos with full length shots that also take in the scenery and surrounds. Change the angle you take the photo from.

  5. Where to look
    You do not always need to face the camera directly and smile. Try mixing it up a little. Here are some options of where else your subjects can look:
    - At one another;
    - Into the distance;
    - Away from the camera.
    Photos taken like this can give the feeling that you have captured a private moment.

Now that you have some beautiful photos, why not incorporate them in the next Greeting Card, Invitation or Christmas Card you send out. We welcome you to browse through our designs. Alternatively, contact us as we can work together to choose the perfect design.
