Where do I start?? There are so many photo opportunities at a Childrens' Birthday Party, but they are often missed. Here are 10 Photo Tips to help you capture the day!
- Be Prepared:
Create a list of must have photos, e.g.:
-
Before the party take one of the birthday child;
-
Your setup before and after, as well as close ups, e.g. cup cakes;
-
Candid photos;
-
Group photos;
-
Kids on arrival
( This can perhaps be done with a theme background near the present table or front door. e.g. for a fairy party, hang a white sheet with a pastel coloured chiffon material over it);
While setting up, consider your photo compositions.
Are there any obstructions? What is in the background?
Know in advance where you want to take the group photo;
If you have a theme, consider having some props for your photos;
- Assign a photographer;
- Take photos of kids at eye level – tops of heads are not that attractive;
- Frame your subject, i.e. use your zoom!
- Be Quick – kids are fast and have a short attention span;
- Table shots – if sitting on a rectangle table, take the photo from the wide side, to ensure everyone is in focus and can be seen;
- Take multiple photos of important moments, e.g. blowing out the candle. You can also try using the continuous mode to capture that perfect facial expression;
- Background – keep it clutter free, move if you have!
- Charge your battery, clear your memory card;
- Do something with your photos straight away – print them, make a slide show, put them into a scrapbook. But do it while the memory is still fresh in everyone’s mind!
Happy Shooting! I would love to see some of your shots!
